‘Always a Bridesmaid’ is about four Southern female friends-for-life who made a pact in High School to take ‘the long walk’ at each other’s weddings no matter what happened over the years. The play was written by the team of Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, best known for their work on the TV show ‘The Golden Girls’. They also wrote ‘The Dixie Swim Club’ which was such a success at this same theatre last season.
The all-female cast of six (6) consists of the following characters:
Kari Ames-Bissette – Late 20’s, a kindhearted, spirited Southern charmer and daughter of Libby Ruth.
Libby Ruth Ames – Late 40’s, a hopeless romantic, sweet country woman, plain-spoken and guileless.
Sedalia Ellicott – 60’s, a gregarious, energetic Virginia hostess of weddings.
Monette Gentry – Late 40’s, kinda flashy, kinda trashy, a Southern-to-the-bone flirt.
Charlie Collins – Late 40’s, tree-hugging, Birkenstock-wearing, acerbic Southern free spirit.
Deedra Wingate – Late 40’s, headstrong, dry wit, no-nonsense Northern transplant
The Director will be Jim Monaghan, who has directed plays in Elora and Georgetown such as ‘Sylvia’, ‘The Sting’, ‘Shorthanded’ and ‘The Dixie Swim Club’. Peter King will be the Producer. Jim can be contacted at 905-749-2472 or email@example.com.
